ContinentialContinental has unveiled its innovative "Emotional Cockpit" at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas. This groundbreaking concept integrates multiple display solutions into a seamless, function-driven, and customisable unit designed to enhance the in-car experience. At the heart of this innovation is a 1.3-metre-long E Ink Prism display, a sleek and versatile component that stretches across the width of the dashboard, redefining interior design possibilities.
The E Ink Prism display uses ePaper technology, familiar from e-readers, to create endless personalisation opportunities. This trimline display enables drivers to choose unique patterns, colours, and combinations to match their preferences while also displaying essential information, such as battery range for electric vehicles. The collaboration between Continental and E Ink, a leading developer of ePaper technology, brings this elegant and energy-efficient display solution to the automotive sector.

E Ink displays operate using electronically charged microcapsules, allowing them to consume power only when the image changes. Unlike traditional backlit screens, these displays reflect light, mimicking the appearance of real paper. This unique feature enables them to maintain static images, graphics, or text indefinitely without requiring additional energy, making them especially beneficial for electric vehicles where energy efficiency is paramount.
The first generation of this display technology features a sleek black-and-grey aesthetic, ideal for minimalist designs. Future iterations are expected to introduce colour options. In addition to being energy-efficient, ePaper displays are lightweight and highly durable, making them perfect for vehicle applications.

Continental is also exploring how E Ink technology can enhance vehicle exteriors. At CES, the company showcased an Intelligent Vehicle Experience Demo Car equipped with an E Ink display on the B-pillar. This external display can be customised with personal content and practical information, such as the vehicle's current charge level. For electric car owners, this feature eliminates the need to unlock the vehicle to check the range, adding convenience during charging or pre-journey preparations.
