ADAC, ÖAMTC, and TCS Award Top Marks for Performance on Wet and Winter Roads
Semperit Speed-Grip 5 Also Achieves a Commendable Result
Hanover, Germany, 24 September 2024 – The WinterContact TS 870 by Continental, sized 205/55 R 16, has emerged as the top performer in the latest winter tyre test conducted by the German automobile club ADAC, the Austrian ÖAMTC, and the Swiss TCS. Both ADAC and ÖAMTC rated it "good" (2.0), while the Swiss automobile club TCS deemed it "highly recommended." This outstanding performance places Continental's winter tyre at the top of the twelve models tested this season. The comprehensive testing included tyre models from manufacturers across Europe, Asia, and America, using a Volkswagen Golf as the test vehicle.
During the evaluation, the WinterContact TS 870 met and exceeded the stringent standards set by the automobile clubs. ADAC's review stated, "The Continental WinterContact TS 870 is convincing on all road surfaces, securing a solidly good rating for driving safety, maintaining a clear lead over its competitors." They further highlighted the tyre's exceptional performance in wet conditions: "On wet roads, the WinterContact TS 870 achieves the best score among the tested models. It earns high marks across all sub-criteria, performing well above average in all aspects of wet-weather driving. Its strengths include short braking distances, impressive aquaplaning resistance, and excellent handling."

The WinterContact TS 870 is designed for small to mid-size cars, but it is also a reliable choice for sporty compact vehicles navigating winter conditions. The range covers tyres with diameters from 14 to 18 inches, cross-sections from 40 to 70 series, and widths from 155 to 225 millimetres. Additionally, models are available with rim protection ribs and XL markings for enhanced load capacity, offering speed ratings up to 240 km/h.
The Semperit brand also performed admirably in this year's tests. The Semperit Speed-Grip 5, in the size 215/55 R 17, received an overall rating of "Satisfactory" (2.6) from both ADAC and ÖAMTC, and a "recommended" designation from TCS. The jury praised its features, noting: "It offers above-average mileage and demonstrates low wear. Its efficiency is further enhanced by its lightweight construction and reduced fuel consumption."
