Ireland Triumph in a Tight Contest

Ireland kicked off their Six Nations campaign with a hard-fought 27-22 victory over England at the Aviva Stadium. In a match that showcased high-intensity rugby, the home side overcame an early deficit to secure a crucial win in front of a passionate Dublin crowd.

England Start Strong

England made an impressive start, taking control in the early stages. Young winger Cadan Murley marked his Six Nations debut with a well-taken try in the 9th minute, capitalising on slick passing from Marcus Smith and Henry Slade. Smith added the conversion to give England a 7-0 lead.

Ireland responded with sustained pressure, but England’s defence held firm. However, just before the break, Ireland’s Jamison Gibson-Park sniped through a gap in the English defence to score. A missed conversion meant England led 10-5 at half-time, following a Marcus Smith penalty.

Ireland’s Second-Half Comeback

After the restart, Ireland found their rhythm. Bundee Aki crashed over in the 52nd minute to level the scores, and a Sam Prendergast penalty soon after nudged the hosts ahead for the first time.

England struggled to regain momentum as Ireland’s forward pack dominated possession. Tadhg Beirne powered over the line in the 64th minute, followed by a well-executed try from Dan Sheehan in the 72nd. Jack Crowley converted both, extending Ireland’s lead to 27-10.

England’s Late Rally Falls Short

Despite trailing by 17 points, England refused to concede defeat. Tom Curry’s powerful finish in the 76th minute gave them hope, and a last-gasp try from Tommy Freeman brought them within striking distance. Marcus Smith’s conversions cut the deficit to just five points, but Ireland held firm in the dying moments to seal the victory.
