The tread depth of your tyres must not fall below the legal minimum depth which varies depending on your vehicle.

Passenger Vehicle

If you have an ordinary passenger vehicle, you must have at least 1.6mm of tread throughout a continuous band in the centre three-quarters of the tread width and around the entire circumference of the tyre.

What's the Legal Minimum Depth of Tread for Car Tyres?

Truck

If you own a truck (vehicle exceeding 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight), the requirements are slightly different. You must have at least 1.0mm of tread throughout a continuous band in the centre three-quarters of the tread width and around the entire circumference of the tyre.

If you have a motorcycle over 50cc, you must have at least 1.0mm of tread throughout a continuous band in the centre three-quarters of the tread pattern and have visible tread on the remaining one-quarter.
